Gilpin's Gin

Celebrating George Gilpin (1515-1602), spice trader. was appointed by Queen Elizabeth the First as her Ambassador to the Low Countries at the time of the Spanish Armada. He was one of the first Englishmen to enjoy (and bring home) the new Dutch “Genever” spirit flavoured with botanical spices including juniper. This original gin was the first truly global product, with spices coming from all around the known world - from as far away as China and South America. Within a few years there were hundreds of gin distilleries in London.

The rest is history...

This bottle was donated to the Gin Bar by a friend, and I immediately loved its rectangular shape, as well as the classic elegance of the label. I decided to create a shade that referenced the gin's spice trade heritage, while also responding to the unusual sharp angles of the bottle.

This lamp is available to buy at £70 + P&P. Please contact me at marylu.mitchell2011@gmail.com.
